A River Runs is a story that is filled with several POV stories from the point of view of several characters from the Riverlands. A River Runs follows numerous characters and while it spans over the course of so many chapters that it would normally be seen as a full story but the varied degree of POV Characters makes it more random and less a full fledged story.

Following the taking of the Riverlands during the Rise of Lucerne the story A River Runs would begin as a means of following several of the characters that had become popular during the several chapters that the Lucernians were in Riverrun, and the Riverlands.

The first POV Character is Padme Oakheart and her chapters deal with the events that begin with the anihilation of her The Vale of Mallister is heavily dealt with and the character of Tristifer Mudd II. becomes the second POV Character after he has become increasingly important during the Saiden Scarlet chapters. Arwood Lancer would become the fourth POV Character and his role dictated the first of the Ironborn attacks on the lands of the Riverlands, and his vengeance over so much death would become a focal point of the chapter as well as showing the barbarity of the Ironborn under Euron Greyjoy. Leah Oakheart becomes the fifth POV Character and her plotline follows the advancement of her brother Lucas Oakheart and her growth in Pinkmaiden.

Plot Summary

Chapter 1

Padme Goodbrooke is the POV Character of this chapter and during this chapter she remains isolated within the ancestral keep of her family due to the continuing conflict with House Piper of whom is shown to have a historical conflict with House Goodbrooke. In her isolation she heads her House as they take in a number of guests including several of her most prominent vassals including Walter Whent and his family of whom are shown to be very devoted in their loyalty to House Goodbrooke and the fifteen year old Padme is very clearly given the indication that Walters physically crippled son Walter Whent II. is prepared to marry her, and although she has feelings of friendship towards Walter Whent II. she harbors no romantic feelings towards him. After a day alone with just the Whents she welcomes the arrival of the Wodes, and the Lothston's of whom are both also loyalists to House Goodbrooke but the Lothston's loyalty is shown to be more based on hatred of the Pipers then love for the Goodbrooke's when Oswell Lothston the Lord of House Lothston goes on a tiarade about House Piper. Near the end of the chapter the arrival of Hanns Piper III. his son Vitus Piper, and daughter Irena Piper causes quite the upheaval as Hanns is one of the most hateful of the Pipers.

Chapter 2

Padme Goodbrooke is the POV Character of this chapter and during she sits at the head of the table as her vassals sit without much sound due to everyones hatred of the Pipers, and during this quiet time she falls back into memories where in she remembers back to accompanying her father to Rocky Steppe the seat of their rivals in House Piper.

Chapter 3

Tristifer Mudd II. is the POV Character of this chapter and during this chapter Tristifer Mudd II. is shown to be a young squire for his uncle Marq Mudd of whom he spends the entire day with travelling to two villages near House Mudds seat of Meanisburg.

Chapter 4

Patrek Mallister is the POV Character of this chapter and during this chapter he is spending time within the Palace of Surdenfane where he is shown to be extremely close to his wife Valleria of whom was originally of House Mudd, and with his wife he is shown to have three children despite her relatively young age. As they are spending time together several older children enter in the form of his children with his first wife Cerlina Waller and it becomes clear that there is a rivalry between these children and his new wife Valleria and this rivallry is shown most clearly when Valleria and Patrek's eldest child Deleria Mallister get into an argument which leads to him sending his children out of the room and talking things out with Deleria, and Valleria. When Deleria storms from the room Patrek takes Valleria by the hand and they go towards the lower levels of the palace neither saying a word, and finally reaching a door with several locks on it he opens the locks and together they walk inside and locking the door behind them he hands her a knife and as valleria lights several torches in the room we see that a women is tied to a table and Patrek watches as Valleria begins using the knife on the women and Patrek watches this as tears flow down his face in horror over what she is doing.

Chapter 5

Andrik Wilde is the POV Character of this chapter and during this chapter he is within the House Wilde fortress of Whelia where Andrik is shown to be very close to his brother Orden, and his sister Olivia and this relationship would be the defining relationships for him as his relationship with his father was more hateful due to the death of his mother being foolishly blamed on him by his father. Andrik following an argument with his father travels northward with his sister Olivia to Fairmarket where he plans to visit his friend from childhood in the form of Ellisha Jennett of whom it is shown he has been sending letters back and forth with since they first met when they were nine. Thinking on their first meeting he remembers the small ruined holdfast where they were forced to stay together after Ellisha and her father found him wandering the road in a massive snow storm after he had gotten lost from the hunting party of his family.

Chapter 6

Arwood Lancer is the POV Character of this chapter and during this chapter he is sitting on his horse staring out at the jousting field where he is preparing to joust against another errant knight, and his thoughts describe how with this victory he will be the champion of this tournament, but also describe as he looks into the stands that he will name Maeri Justman the Queen of Love and Beauty despite being betrothed to Olayne Piper.

Chapter 7

Arwood Lancer is the POV Character of this chapter and during this chapter he travels to Rocky Steppe with his father of whom on the boat ride is extremely enraged at him over the drama he has caused by naming Maeri Justman the Queen of Love and Beauty, but Arwood is quite adament as to his affections for Maeri Justman but his father does point out that love changes little when it comes to a standing betrothal.

Chapter 8

Leah Oakheart is the POV Character of this chapter and during this chapter she is running through the burning streets of Tree Hill trying to get away from Orcs. Running and running she nearly makes it to the bridge into the Keep but it is shut behind her, and before she can scream for help she is turned around to see Dan Scott raise a sword to kill her before she wakes up screaming from this reacuring dream of hers. She is comforted from her dream by her brother Lucas who is shown to sleep in the same room as hers, and after talking things over with Lucas it becomes clear her hatred of Dan Scott for killing Thomas Oakheart their brother but also a hatred of her father for not doing anything to avenge their brother. The two go to the wall together looking out into the massed forces of the Orcs of whom still sit awaiting their victory against the dwindling defenders of Tree Hill, and after this the two spend the rest of the day visiting different people of Tree Hill. Going to sleep she is awoken by the sounds of trumpets, and horns and following her brother who gets into his full armor and races to the wall the two watch from the walls as the Orcs are massacred by the massive army of William Lovie III.

Chapter 9

Barrister Curtley II. is the POV Character of this chapter and during this chapter he is sitting on a chair with Visella Abander laying against his shoulder, while the two look out at the gathering mass of people arriving to watch what he reveals is a duel between himself and his former best friend Trent Torhood. The chapter ends with a crying Barrister riding away from the walls of Torhood unable to even turn around as he realizes in this moment how much he has lost losing the duel to Trent.

Chapter 10

Andrik Wilde is the POV Character of this chapter and during this chapter he travels with his sister Olivia, and his brother Orden to the Valley of Lucerne city of Forks where the three go to the Tournament of Forks where the Kingdom of Lucerne is celebrating both the life of young William Lovie IV. as the heir to the throne as well as the victory of King William Lovie III. at Berne. Andrik is able to get himself quite close to the king and spends his time overhearing the plans of the king, and inspired by the vision of William Lovie III. and also hearing about plans to move against Fairmarket he is able to meet with William Lovie III.'s aunt Catherine Lovie and alongside his sister, and brother the three arrange with Catherine that when the forces of Lucerne come to Fairmarket House Wilde will turn on their Fairmarket masters and join with them.
