- “Built over the remains of the former Elven Kingdom in France, the Bretonians met the same fate all arrogant Kingdoms meet. A true waste of potential and lives.”
- — Bill Lovie
The Kingdom of Bretonia is a major Human Kingdom historically centered around France, and the southern sections of England that was deemed by many to be the largest and most powerful Kingdom in Europe on par with even the mighty Empire. The Kingdom of Bretonia was ravaged and nearly destroyed during the War in France and this has changed the fabric of Europe along with the power bases of the Kingdoms of Europe that relied upon Bretonia just to surive. Following this disaster they moved the center of their kingdom to the England province. The destruction of France not only heavily damaged the soul of the Kingdom, but it left it with a desperatly small population, and severly depleted army. This situation has been further complicated by the fact that they appear to be facing a very serious foe in both Wales, and Pruta who are desperate they get their kingdoms back.
House Eisenburg was the house that came to define the Kingdom of Bretonia when they were one of the last houses given supplies and gold by the Dwarves who wanted to expand the human presence in France so that they were not alone in fighting the Trollocs and others. The Kingdom of Bretonia would expand massively and the members of House Eisenburg would be some of the largest benifactors of this growth as they became one of the top five houses in all of Europe and their wealth approached even that of House Franz. House Eisenburg would be nearly completely destroyed during the Fall of France with only one member suriving, and much of their wealth and power base lost on the battlefields that littered France. The Kingdom is now Ruled by the young King Jesse Eisenburg, who is married to the Queen of Bretonia Lindsay Eisenburg, and has been working tirelessly to both regrow the power base of House Eisenburg and at the same time to make sure his heirs that have been born are able to grow it as well.
The Kingdom of Bretonia was converted to the religion of Christianity following the successful Proselytism of Mathew the Apostle and founded the National Church of Fraticelli after the first Arch-Bishop of Bretonia, and since this day the Kingdom of Bretonia has been near exclusively Christian with other religions barely accepted.
The Kingdom of Bretonia was different from the other large kingdoms within Europe in that it was dominated by the Frankish ethnicity. This Frankish domination continued for much of their history but when England became a province the Franks begin to emmigrate their to suplement the population with more loyal citizens of Bretonia, and by the time of the Fall of France there were large numbers of Franks in England. The Franks would retreat on mass to England during the Fall of France further supllementing the population of Franks in England and allowing the continuation of a Frankish Kingdom but things had changed in England. As the KIngdom of Bretonia expanded in England they had brought more and more Anglos into their ranks and now they were a serious player in the Kingdom of Bretonia to the point that they needed to rewarded with positions of ranks or elce their might be trouble.
The Kingdom of Bretonia was founded during the days following the Downfall of Numeron, and the influx of Franks that flooded into France during the Great Migration. During this time the Kingdom of Bretonia was led by a large number of small tribes of which the largest power in the entire region was the Dwarves of Karak Matron, and the Trollocs who controlled much of the region. During this time the Dwarves gave huge resources, and support to the human Frankish Tribes of the region and from there a massive conflict would break out which would end with the rise of House Eisenburg, the creation of the Kingdom of Bretonia, and the destruction of much of the Trollocs of France. Following this they would briefly choose to expand southward into the region of Hispania but their expansion there was halted by a brilliant defence by the local Roman commander, and the two would break out into the first of the many wider Roman-Bretonian conflicts. Most recently they made a massive invasion into the lands of the Prutan Empire of whom was wholly unprepared for the more advanced technology of the incoming Bretonians, and the vast numbers that they had brought to bear against them leading to a large scale victory for the incoming Bretonians. The Kingdom of Bretonia would become embroiled in the larger Orcish Invasion of Europe following this, and in the culmination of the conflict they would lose a large portion of their population and their ancient homeland of France was destroyed leaving them with nothing but their holdings in England.
History
Main Article : Timeline of the Kingdom of Bretonia
Early History
The Kingdom of Bretonia began shortly after the retreat of the Elves from France, following the events of the War of Vengeance . Following the departure of the Elves , the Dwarves wanted a new trading partner, and one that would be able to resist the growth of the greenskins that they saw. In the early Franks that entered France the Dwarves found their trading partner. While over time the Dwarves would come to rely more on the Empire than Bretonia the beginning still made the two forever close.
Rise of the Kingdom of Bretonia
Main Article : Frankish Crusade
The Rise of France France was a battleground between more then just the Franks and Trolloc. The Dwarves instigated the whole thing wanting to help the humans. The Elves sent forces into the fray to support the humans. Even the Vampires of Weerhousen joined the fray on the side of the humans. Then there was the gods. Chaos sent forces under Flemeth's dark men to stop the humans. When that turned out to be not enough Chaos sent the Vampires leading to Vampire on Vampire fighting. As it spread out of control the only Noble Titan willing to do anything in Odin sent his daughters to help. It was called the Frankish Crusade, but in truth it was a world war. |
---|
The region of France had been the site of the major racial conflict in the form of the War of Vengeance and following this conflict the entire region of France had become dominated by the Trolloc and isolated elements of other order but the Trollocs were basically the dominant power. This changed when the Empire of Matron begin to attempt to uplift the Frankish of the region in an attempt to create a buffer between themselves and the ravaging tribes of Trolloc infesting the land. This experiment begin with the simple goal of expanding the human presence by giving equipment and in the proper places financing to Frankish tribes so that they would expand into regions dominated by the Trollocs. In this way the Dwarves sent caravans throughout the human controlled parts of France and found tribal leaders that they believed had competent leadership and a foundation of popularity that would allow them to expand quickly. The Dwarves would come to empower many houses but the following were the most important and in the end the only houses to matter much during the rise of the Frankish in France. House Eisenburg
The Dwarves would send out dozens of scouting parties into France which they had been isolated with for many years, and these groups looked for different powers among the Franks, and it would be House Eisenburg that would be one of the first of a series of tribes that was met by the Dwarves. In this case the Dwarves arrived at Paris with a force of some fifty Dwarves led by Johanan Craghand of whom was a relatively young Dwarf but believed in the Dwarven cause with everything he had and was also notably an extremely devout Christian joining the increasingly numerous Dwarven-Christian naming system. Arriving at Paris his lieutenants would believe that there was little chances of success as their proximity to the vast Orleans region which was a stronghold of the Trollocs and was causing serious problems for House Naeniss who was far larger. House Eisenburg though was controlled and led by a brilliant leader named Charlemagne of whom was perhaps the most intelligent of the leaders rising at this point, and it was this leadership that would be the one thing that gave the Dwarven commander hope for their victory. Johanan Craghand would knight many warriors of the Eisenburg region, and also the Dwarven Christian Priest Zachary of Mathias would preach the word of Jesus, and his words struck a cord with Charlemagne of whom would command his men to listen to these words and convert to Christianity. Alongside these knighting ceremonies and the mass conversion of the region to Christianity they would also would give them promises of resources and it was in this giving of resources that the brilliant Charlemagne would find his true hope equiping his most loyal soldiers in armor, and equipping them with the best weapons he could get Johanan to get for him. During the start of his rise Charlemagne would come to rely on his children to a great extent with all of his children taking heavy roles in the movement of House Eisenburg including most prominently Lisiana Eisenburg, and Pepin Eisenburg. House Liolen
In this search the first and most prominent house was House Liolen of whom was located north of Karak Matron, and south of Corone Hold. Led by Jamten Liolen the house was already quite powerful in the region and they had a large force with which to expand themselves outwards. House Liolen expanded well in their region and they in turn begin asking for more and more equipment for their expansion to the point that they had to go to the Dwarf Hold of Corone which they were told about through a series of Dwarven scouts. This would be the site of the first betrayal the Dwarves of Karak Ankor would suffer when the Humans of Liolen decided that the power of Corone was too much for them to ignore and they decided to sack the Hold and take the land for themselves. They talked to the Dwarves of Corone and got them to agree to a massive supply run and said that they themselves would pick up the goods and when the Dwarves went out to meet with them the Dwarves were ambushed and killed to the last. With the Dwarves dead the humans put on their clothing and equipment and used these disguises to get inside the Dwarven defenses and as part of the humans infiltrated in this way the other part moved aggressively against the Dwarves who were shocked by this attack and put up little resistance. As the Dwarves begin to mount a defense they found their Thane slain and most of their commands killed as the infiltrating humans burned them from the inside. What few Dwarves managed to escape fled north to the small Dwarven port of Hekbrund where they boarded ships and fled westward towards Best where they would be safer. House Aslan
House Aslan controlled one of the few major towns of the human controlled region in Reims of which had nearly a fifty thousand people of which were all dominated by House Aslan. This alone meant that House Aslan was someone who was in great demand by the Dwarves and they were provided heavily with supplies and weapons which the Dwarves hoped would allow them to expand southward into the heart of the Trolloc controlled provinces. House Aslan would be noticed by Charlagamne when his scouts begin to expand into villages north of his territories and so he sent his oldest son on a dangerous mission to visit Reims in the hopes that his son could barter an agreement between the two growing nations. This trip would become famous as his son Pepin travelled with a few of his closest men through hundreds of miles of Trolloc dominated landscape and by the time they reached Reims there were only a handful of the numerous force that had left but he arrived to see the splender of Reims and knew that his father was right in sending him. He and his force were greeted on the doorsteps of the city by Marian Aslan the heir to House Aslan and a wise young man for his age. The two would discuss things and over the course of several weeks of talking became shockingly close to the point that Marian begin to listen to the words of Pepin when it came to the alliance he wanted between the two forces. House NaenissHouse Naeniss was much in the same as House Aslan in that they too were a house that once the Dwarven scouts approached the region and asked for leaders they were all pushed towards the village controlled by House Naeniss. When they got close the forces of House Naeniss nearly attacked the Dwarves as they were extremely barbaric in comparison to much of the other tribes of the Franks that were nearby and the Dwarves quickly learned that House Naeniss was in fact Burgundian and the major Burgundian House in the region. House Naeniss attempted to expand but found their movement and attacks thwarted by a massive number of Trollocs in the region and thus they stalemated in their advance into the lands of the Trolloc. House Naeniss in this stalemate would be greeted by the second of Charlamagne's children in the form of Charlamagne III. or as he was called Charles the lesser as he was deemed by many to be the weakest of Charle's children, but during his time in the realm of Naeniss he would change this image completely. He would first arrive in Naeniss on the invite of Petter Naeniss the Lord of Naeniss and this had been after a series of offers has finally been accepted in order to facilitate the meeting. When he arrived he was laughed at by many in the higher rankings but his tenacity soon grew on Petter who took him with him when he led his force against a massive horde of Trollocs. During the battle Petter would lose two sons and his daughter would nearly die but she would be saved by the intervention of Chalie of whome after the battle was given to Petter's daughter as a reward and because she had fallen for him during this act. His marriage to Petria made him the heir to House Naeitriss a fact that didn't sit well with many in Naetriss but was perfect for House Eisenburg. "It would be folly, I think, to write a word concerning Charles' birth and infancy, or even his boyhood, for nothing has ever been written on the subject, and there is no one alive now who can give information on it. Accordingly, I determined to pass that by as unknown, and to proceed at once to treat of his character, his deed, and such other facts of his life as are worth telling and setting forth, and shall first give an account of his deed at home and abroad, then of his character and pursuits, and lastly of his administration and death, omitting nothing worth knowing or necessary to know." -Tanlian Eisenburg Charlamagne would take the supplies and finances that had been given to him and use them to massively expand his personal army which he would then use to take control over the region around him to the point that he controlled a land and population similar to the other four houses. On top of this he would use his children to attempt to broker arrangements with the other leaders, of which was a plan that brought great rewards to his relationships in all regards except for with House Liolen of whome refused to even respond to his ravens. This became an even greater concern when news filtered to the humans through the Dwarves that the Kingdom of Liolen had sacked Corone and was brutally massacring entire villaged of humans as it expanded westward, and to make matters even worse they had ambushed and killed a force of the Kingdom of Aslan which was on gaurd in the rear of the lines. All of this was a huge distraction that could have been avoided as the Trollocs of the Orleans regions were attacking all along the human borders in an increasingly coordinated fashion that wasn't something anyone had seen them capable of before.Vampires near Paris
It would be at this time as the Dwarves were sending out their forces that the Vampires of Weerhousen would become intertwined in the Frankish Crusade as the Dwarven involvmenet became discovered by elements of Chaos. These Chaos elements in the form of Flemeth, and Velevia Silivia would command their servents to move into the region of France in order to work against the forces of Corruption of Lisiana Eisenburg

Golden Age
In the years following the conquering of France the Bretonians would enter into a prolonged two hundred year period of extreme growth. During this time the trading convoys of the Bretonians were being sent as far away as Byzantine and Nehekhara while the armies of Bretonian were only truly apposed by the forces of Rome, and The Empire .
Preaching to Western Europe
Mathew the Apostle would following the death of Jesus leave Nehekhara for a time travelling to Constantinople where he would found the Roman Catholic Church converting the population there to its belief before travelling to Italy where he was able to convert the population there as well thereby converting the Roman Empire to Christianity.
Conversion of the Bretonians
Following his conversion of the Romans he would travel with a large grouping of these Romans to the expanding rapidly Kingdom of Bretonia and would be able to convert the monarchy of Bretonia to the worship of the Christian Church of which the Romans would form the Roman Catholic Church, while the Bretonians would form the Fraticelli Church both of which swiftly became the state religion of both nations.
Conversion of the Dwarves
Departing the Kingdom of Bretonia he would attempt to make his way eastward into the region of Alcase, and Lorraine but was forced to move north and then west by large numbers of Trollocs who blocked his path eventually making him enter the Dwarven Holds of Matron where he remained for almost fifteen years preaching to the Dwarves eventually converting there King of whom renamed their lands the Imperial Empire of Matron and joined the Roman Catholic Church.
Bretonian Invasion of England
Main Article : Bretonian Invasion of England
The Fall of England Tomorrow we bring the rule of Christ to this savage island. Tomorrow we spread the great work of our lord to new lands. |
---|
The true start of the Bretonian invasion of England would start with the events of the conversion of England to the worship of Jesus Christ. Following the conversion of King Fraticelli Eisenburg I. the first Fraticelli Crusade converted the entire France region to Christianity and then following a breakdown of relations the first invasion of England was launched by Fraticelli against the Kingdom of Kent who was slaughtered in large scale religious fighting that brought thousands of Franks into England settling in Kent. King Fraticelli would have a religious awakening during the killings and would spark peace between Bretonia and England and this peaceful doctrine would become the strategy of the next two kings in Fraticelli Eisenburg II., and Fraticelli Eisenburg IV. of whom spent considerable efforts in attempting to convert England and had notable success in converting the Cornish people, but no success against the Anglos and Pruta. |
Fall of Hispania
Main Article : Fall of Hispania
Fall of Hispania We just sat there and let them destroy half the continent. It all could have been stopped so easily. |
---|
The Orcs inability to swim, or craft any sort of boat meant that the Romans had left this region dangerously undermanned believing that this water barrier would provide all the protection they needed. In fact there were more solders garrisoning the small Italian town of briensia, of which shared no border with any hostile nation, then there were in the castle of Gibraltar. As well as this undermanned garrison the original site of the castle was far enough back from the beach and the crossing that the soldiers couldn't see the crossing, and for this they relied on a small village with a large lighthouse along the coast. For years the Orcs of Emblam prepared for this crossing by massing a huge amount of troops in the lands of the former Roman provinces of Mauritania while the Kingdom of Senegal one of the human client states of Emblam begin preparations for the moving of the Orc armies across the Straits of Gibraltar. This bridge would be used by the Orcs to open up a new front in Europe, as they were being stalled in Africanas by the Nubian Empire, and the Kingdom of Lahmia.
The Order of the Raven would be contacted during this time by Tanitha Ogriddit the Fourth Mistress of the Order of Ekrodomis and during this visit it was Gregor Davenholdt the High Mentor of the Ravens that soundly rejected helping them with such a morally bankrupt mission and threatened violence against Tanitha and her party if they did not leave. Following the departure of Tanitha it was Sayden Ah-Salemi that would follow her with several of his loyalists and realizing this was his moment to destroy the moral ravens he would agree to work with Tanitha and bring whatever support he was able to once he had gained control of the ravens. This action and agreement would lead to the Coup of Ravenholdt which once it was complete would lead to Sayden as the new High Minister and with this new power he would meet with the Empire of Emblam at the city of Banjul inside the Republic of Gambia where meeting with the Gambians and Senegese they would arrange to assist in controlling southern Hispania. Returning to Ravenholdt following this agreement it was Sayden that would send two of his loyalists in the form of the Raven Masters Vincent Vandame, and Hartwin Eberl to southern Hispania where they were to stop the castle of Gibraltar from communicating what was happening across the Straights of Gibraltar. Fall of GibraltarMain Article : Massacre at Gibraltar
Poncet Mariette would lead his Unkindness to the small castle of Gibraltar where arriving with his forces he links up with Vincent Vandame, and Hartwin Eberl and their forces all of whom are to combine their strength. Vincent and Hartwin had managed to keep any word from Gibraltar from leaving the area as well as sabotaged the boat at the port which was meant to be the first warning against movement to the south, and thus the Roman Empire remained unaware of the growing construction of the Bridge of Gibraltar. Entering the castle Ezio accompanies Poncet, Hartwin, and Vincent as they are introduced to a Roman Lieutenant named Postumius Iavolenus of whom they discuss the current regional situation with and Postumius reveals he has only gained a few dozen of the garrison to his side while the remainder remain loyal to Caelus Trebonius the Legate Tribune of the castle. With this in mind Poncet while clearly confused as to what there end goal is goes along with the plan that Vincent and Hartwin form in order to kill the garrison and then gain control of the port.
The attack would be stalled by Vincent, and Hartwin who refused to tell Poncet why but instead commanded he and his Unkindess travel north and destroy the village of San Toque. Poncet would once again wilt under the pressure and accepted this command taking Ezio with him as they traveled to San Toque on this mission of destruction.
Following returning from the destruction of San Toque it was Poncet who met with the newly arrived Burama Jarju of whom was a member of the Morag Tong and was there to assist in the capture of Gibraltar. Together with the few traitors in the castle the forces of the Raven and the Morag Tong would attack the castle during the night and without any warning the defenders were mainly dead before any fight could be had, and the legate tribune would be assassinated by Poncet who alongside Ezio spoke briefly with the tribune before the kill discovering more details on what was actually happening. Aftermath
Ezio and Benjamin Bradfoot discussing the situation and Ezio feels the first pangs of doubt over his loyalties as Benjamin reveals he cannot accept what has happened and prepares to leave for Malta to warn the Order of the Purple Cloth about the happenings in southern Hispania. Ezio at first is prepared to kill Benjamin but their frienship and his confusion over the evil they had just taken part in leads Ezio to let Benjamin leave, and with this Ezio returns to the camp where he plans to tell them Benjamin was struck down and fell in the water. Capture of MalagaMain Article : Capture of Malaga The town of Malaga was a major town located in the middle of the Malaga mountain chain, and with the Orcs massing in Gibraltar it was Malaga that was chosen as the place where they would situate their main organizational center. Wanting to take control of Malaga with as much of the infrastructure intact as possible the plan would be for a division of the Kingdom of Senegal, a division from Gambia, and a division from Songhei, to join the Order of the Raven and Morag Tong in capturing the town with as little violence as possible. Entering Malaga its Ezio who runs into a young man and seeing the boy snaps something inside him and leads Ezio to knock the young man out and leave him hidden in a celler telling no one of this outside of Erard Montaigu before they return to their mission of killing the seventh centurion. Entering the command headquarters for the seventh cohort of the 13th legion they would kill several legionarries who blocked their path to the main room, and upon reaching it found Caelius Paetinus inside with three legionarries but only one had his armor and weapon with him. Fall of AlmeriaMain Article : Fall of Almeria The Invasion of Hispania would begin with an event known as the Fall of Almeria where they forces of Emblam alongside their allies having already taken much of south-eastern Hispania would surround the port of Almeria where the bulk of the Roman Fleet in Hispania had made its port. By this time there were rumblings around the Roman Empire that things were happening in Hispania but for the part of Appius Procyon the Legate Prefict in charge of the scouting for the 13th Legion he had no signs of attack and his scouts were not relaying anything of importance to him due to the work of the Morag Tong targeting them. At the onset of the Fall of Hispania Appius was in a small fortress just north of Almeria where he was dealing with negotiations with a small tribe of Spaniards and it was in this position that he was forced to fight for his life when Orcs attacked his fort during the larger Fall of Almeria. Having survived and rallied his forces during the events of the Fall of Almeria it was Appius who joined the Legate of the 13th linking up with the larger surviving forces of the 13th as they begin retreating northward towards Alicante. Battle of Central HispaniaThe Romans would send in six Legions as reinforcements in an attempt to stall the Orcs advance while they built up the defences of Valencia, Tourone, and Castile. The Legions arrived in Valencia and begin moving towards their respective spots but in an unfortuante turn of events the 13th Legion under Lucius Vorenus, and the 4th Legion under Titus Pulo would be stuck in Ravenna at port and didn't arrive until it was too late for them to reach Castile, and thus two Legions meant to defend Valencia moved towards Castile. These four Legions fighting at Castile attempted delaying tactics for nearly a month, but each battle left them more and more drained and they were less and less effective. The 2nd Legion managed to escape west towards Portugal, and it sucked off a portion of the Orcs that followed them as they retreated at full speed towards Tourone. The 9th Legion would be massacred by the Orcs outside of the city as they attempted to make their way inside, while the 10th Legion would escape that Battle and make it inside the city. The final legion in the 5th Legion would flee eastward effectively and would meet up with the newly arrived 13th, and 4th Legions in Valencia. Battle for TouroneMain Article : Battle for Tourone Alexander Rousset would lead the forces of the Dutchy of Aquitaine into the area of Tourone where they planned on assisting the pushing out of the Orc forces from Hispania, but upon arriving in Tourone they discovered that the 5th Legion was no longer attempting to fight an offensive conflict and instead was in a fighting retreat back to Tourone in preparation for holding the area to allow people to escape, and with this in mind Alexander would send his son and the fleet south while he joined the effort to hold Tourone. The Tourone GapMain Article : Battle of Tourone Gap As a large force of refugees flowed into the Tourone area the usually Bretonian nationalist Alexander Rousset made the decision to hold the gap open at the risk of his own forces and this led to the Battle of the Tourone Gap where Alexander kept the gap open then led an ordered retreat out of the gap back to Tourone but was mortally wounded during the battle dying shortly before they arrived at Tourone. Battle for LisbonMain Article : Great Battle for Lisbon Lisbon Counter assaultIt would be Alain Rousset that would following the command of his father take the Aquitaine Fleet and move southward to link up with the Roman Fleet at Lisbon for what he planned to be an eventual assault on the Straights of Gibraltar. Arriving at Lisbon Alain discovered that the Roman Fleet at Lisbon had been defeated by a naval force from the Emblam allied nation of the Kingdom of Songhei and learning the Roman Fleet had fled westward trying to escape it was Alain who led the Aquitaine Fleet westward in support and would come upon the Roman Fleet and the Songhei engaged in a fleet battle and with his arrival they shattered the Songhei Fleet and captured or killed the entire Songhei Fleet. Fall of CastileWith the Fall of the resistence the Orcs made a straight line for Castile, and the massive millions strong Orcs Army surrounded the city and put it under siege. For days they hammered at the city but the stalwart defenders in the 10th Legion would succesfully hold them off under the mistaken belief that the other three legions were on their way to releave them. While the other three wanted to assist the 5th Legion was damaged and unable to move, and the 13th and 4th were facing massive opposition in the form of the Orcs advancing on Valencia. With no resistence coming Lucius Vorenus sent a raven to Bretonia where he said in the letter that Castile was going to fall if the Bretonians did not advance and assist them. Upon reading the letter the Bretonian King is said to have wept tears at the precarious situation that Europe had found itself in, and with all the news shifting in to his throne room he was sure that the letter was authentic. With all of this in mind the Bretonians were scared so much that they flooded into Hispania and made full speed towards Castile. The Bretonians were slowed down by the constant battles and because of this they arrived days to late, and watched as Castile fell and with it the hope of a human Hispania. Battle of ValenciaWith Castile gone the Orcs rampaged towards Valencia, and Andorra where they would come to fight massive battles which for the first time went against them as they discovered the Bretonians were able fighters with competent commanders unlike the Romans. The three sides fought constant battles and with Lucius Vorenus now having complete control the Romans were fighting more effectively and thus Valencia was a no go for the Orcs.

Fall of France
Main Article : War in France
The Kingdom of Bretonia would face its most devestating moment in the form of the War in France .
Following the disasterous Fall of Hispania the Bretonians understood they were next and so they begin heavily fortifying the Andorra region of France .
Unfortunatly their defence would not hold and the orcs would overrun the border, before completely wiping out France in a war that culmninated in the Battle of Lyons .
Moving to England
"Once I got on the boat I just turned around and watched the coast of my homeland grow smaller and smaller. That was the saddest moment of my life."
-Flavias Lancelot
When Andorra fell there were elements of the goverment that believed the time to pull the leadership back from the capital was at hand. Unfortunatly this wasn't heeded and the number of people who actually escaped the graveyard that was France was quite small.
Of the nearly 13 million Bretonians that lived in France nearly 8.5 million lay dead in France while only 1 million managed to retreat to England with the rest filtering into the borders nations of Alcase and The Empire.
Consolidation
With the destruction of France the Bretonians are learning to deal with the reality that they went from the second largest Kingdom in Europe to a simple mid-size Kingdom almost overnight.
The situation in England while not exactly dire is in jeoperday as the opposing forces are very determined and in the case of the Kingdom of Wales are extremely well organized and populated.
At present the main focus of the Bretonians is a defensive posture on the northern flank, while they are going all out on the offensive against the coalition Kingdom of Wales.
Geography
France
Compared to the dark, oppressive and brooding forests of the Empire, the countryside of Bretonnia is relatively calm and prosperous, and the marks of Chaos less apparent. Bretonnia's rolling hills and serene valleys produce abundant crops and fine wines, while the forestlands provide solid timber and good hunting. The Grey Mountains form the natural border between Bretonnia to the west, and the Empire to the east. The northern extension of the Grey Mountains are known as the Pale Sisters, separated from the rest of the range by the Gisoreux gap, the confluence of all the overland trade routes between The Empire, Bretonnia and Rome. With the Fall of France the Kingdom of Bretonia consists of only England
England
England is a land of extremes. In the northern province of Rohavion their is year long snow, and the land is harsh and inhospitable. Very little farming or agriculture is done in the north, and vast tracts of land are covered by wild forests. In England the Trollocs have not come to exist and because of this the forests are a much less dangerous place then the forests of The Empire.
Goverment
King of Bretonia
- “Once we ruled without question, or resistence. Once we were feared by everyone, and seen as the future of the human race. Now we cling to a land hostile to us at every turn.”
- — Jessie Eisenburg
Bretonia is ruled with absolute authority by its King. This system of Fuedilism is meant to make sure that the entire kingdom is looked after. The King is the absolute power broker in the Kingdom of Bretonia and despite the fact that there are many below him in power he has the total power. He can remove Dukes from office, strip anyone of whatever rank they have in basically a whim. The King for this reason is someone that if not ruling properly can lead to chatostrophic moments.

Queen of Bretonia
Beside the King rules the largely ceremonial position of the Queen. The Queen though has some surprising powers that create a situation that if the King were to fall or become less powerful the Queen could litteraly take control of the Kingdom of Bretonia through the power she has to control the Dukes. The Queen was given these powers over the Dukes during the reign of Mantrian Eisenburg of whom had trouble with several Dukes giving up some of their power because they did not trust him. But during this time they did trust the Queen and so the compromise was that the Queen was given larger powers so that in the case that the King betrayed them the Queen could basically swoop in and save them.

Dukedoms
The King gives rule of individual provinces to the control of his Dukes of whome rule over the provinces within the Kingdom of Bretonia. Once there were 39 Dukes in Bretonia, but with the massive destruction of Bretonia during The War in France the number has declined to just 7. The Dukes are usually hereditary leaders but in terms of possible changed the King can at any point remove the rights of a Duke and replace him with someone of his own choice, although this is done only rarely as it creates a lot of opposition if not done right.
Dukes then pass leadership down to their Lords of whom rule over smaller territories in the name of the Duke, and their King. Their are thus hundreds of Lords throughout the Kingdom of Bretonia of which owe their loyalty to the Duke that makes them in that position.

Demographics
Ethnicity
Alongside the two major ethnic groups in english Bretonia there exists a large minority group in the form of the Cornish, and the Welsh with the Welsh dominating the dutchy of West Anglia and the Cornish dominating the dutchies of Cornwall and Brusland.
