Kingdom of Orthanac

The Kingdom of Orthanac is a large Kingdom located north of the mountains of Mordor, and south of Westros, and the Dragonback Mountains. The Kingdom of Orthanac is ruled by the dark Magi Sauruman of whom is in league with Sauron of whom rules silently over him making the Kingdom of Orthanac sort of a puppet Kingdom of Mordor much like Harad but to a lesser extent.

During the years following the Downfall of Numeron the region was taken under the stewardship of Sauraman of whom noone knew had fallen to madness and was now under the control of Sauron. Under the rule of Sauraman the region continued to grow, but its culture came to change as Sauron instituded more and more immigration of Sueve from Harad. He followed this immigration with a silent genocide against the native Atlantians, and in order to make sure noone knew he had his Sueve gaurding the borders. The Kingdom of Orthanac would fight in a brief but bloody conflict known as the Orthanac Civil War where Mordor loyalists led by Saruman battled against the forces of the White Numenorian loyalist House Turmartizh and after the fighting ended Saruman came out victorious bringing Orthanac into the Mordor Empire. When the Gondor Civil War happened Isengard would be the center of the forces of Mordor's attacks in the north of Gondor, and since Gondor thought this was their lands they were severely unprepared and nearly lost Cair Andros. Following the conflict Isengard has continued to grow now under the banner of the Kingdom of Orthanac where Sauraman attempts to supplement Sauron, but has failed to understand that Sauron is actually his puppet master and controls everything he does subtely.

History[]

Early History[]

Isengard was founded in the coming of the Empire of Numeron to the shores of Europe. Originally meant to be the centerpiece of the eastern expansion into Croatia, as the expansion was halted by the losses suffered the tower became a home to retreating members of the Istari, and became a sort of homebase for much of the Order. Isengard became the center of the province of Orthanac, and for the remaining years of the Empire of Numeron its region grew steadily in population, due to the fact that they were in Gondor and thus safe from much of the excesses of the Numenorians. During the years following the Downfall of Numeron the region was taken under the stewardship of Sauraman of whom noone knew had fallen to madness and was now under the control of Sauron.

Kingdom of Orthanac[]

Under the rule of Sauraman the region continued to grow, but its culture came to change as Sauron instituded more and more immigration of Easterlings from Harad. He followed this immigration with a silent genocide against the native Atlantians, and in order to make sure noone knew he had his Easterlings gaurding the borders. When the Gondor Civil War happened Isengard would be the center of the forces of Mordor's attacks in the north of Gondor, and since Gondor thought this was their lands they were severely unprepared and nearly lost Cair Andros.

Battle of Cair Andros
I came here wanting to defend the land I had fled my home for. Seeing it burning when I arrived was the last sight I expected, but in the end my father also told me you have to fight for what you believe in. Even if my father has lost his way I have to constantly remember the person I want to be.

When Mordor caused the civil war in Gondor, one of the main points of the war was the northern section of the battlefield near the fortress of Cair Andros. Cair Andros was something that throughout the entire conflict was being continuesly attacked by both the forces of Mordor, and their vassals in the region. The forces of Gondor were being pushed back and drained to the point that they were nearly destroyed and this was getting worse when a massive Orc force came and besieged the city with the obvious approach of endingCair Andros. Calls for aid went out to Gondor's main army but they were pinned down in southern Gondor between Mordor, and Umbar and thus couldn't assist. In these calls for assistence one of the only responces was from the forces of loyalist Dol Amroth of whom led by Oropher, and Balian Imrahil brought their forces to Cair Andros where they defended the northern approach. When the call came back that they were not going to get any assistence other then the forces of Dol Amroth the commander of the fortress who at the time was the Gondorian General Dur-Melian Pasen gave the basic order that they were going to die in the fortress, and despite Prince Balian Imrahil attempting to disuade him from this notion he would not do anything other then hold within Cair Andros.

You told me weeks ago Melian to look out and try to see this place without monsters. I see what you meant. This place is beautiful.
Balian Imrahil

The siege continued for weeks and the garrison was wittled down over this time and was beggining to run extremely low on supplies when a large force of Sindar Elves from High Forest appeared in the north flanked by a small force of Gondor Cavalry led by Edrion Elessar the brother of the King. The Elven Force had been convinsed by Edrion Elessar to assist Gondor and when noone had volunteered to go the Elven commander Glorifindal had led a massive army eastward towards Cair Andros. The Elven/Gondor force took Mordor completely by suprise and the Mordor force was nearly completely destroyed.

The Garrison of Cair Andros[]

Following their victory the forces of Gondor watched as the Sindar Elves of High Forest poured forces into the Cair Andros region and went about rebuilding the defences and using their massive force to make sure noone attacked while this was underway. For the remainder of the Civil War the Sindar Elves of High Forest led by Glorifindal would remain in Cair Andros and make the northern front a complete victory for Gondor and thus allowing Gondor to pull forces out of the north and into the center.

Post War[]

Following the conflict Isengard has continued to grow now under the banner of the Kingdom of Orthanac where Sauraman attempts to supplement Sauron, but has failed to understand that Sauron is actually his puppet master and controls everything he does subtely.

Isengard

The fortress of Isengard was located in a valley at the southern tip of the Misty Mountains; the Ring of Isengard was a great wall of stone that ran out from the mountain-side and then back again. The only entrance to Isengard was found delved into the southern wall of Isengard. One entering Isengard would pass through its only gate, travel down the long tunnel and pass through the iron doors to come to the plain of Isengard. In the centre of the plain, half a mile from the gate, stood the looming tower of Orthanac. For most of its history the lands of Isengard were green and a river ran from the mountains to form a lake. However after the treason of Saruman all green things that grew were removed and the river was dammed. The inner-ring was riddled with houses which cut into the walls. About the plain great shafts had been dug deep and many stone-flags paved the roads of the surface. Isengard stands as the capital of the Kingdom of Orthanac and the seat of Sauraman.

Sauruman

"Once he was as great as his fame made him. His knowledge was deep, his thought was subtle, and his hands marvelously skilled; and he had a power over the minds of others. The wise he could persuade, and the smaller folk he could daunt. That power he certainly still keeps. There are not many in Middle-earth that I should say were safe, if they were left alone to talk with him, even now when he has suffered a defeat. Gandalf, Elrond, Galadriel, perhaps, now his wickedness has been laid bare, but very few others."

-Gandalf

Sauruman is a truly ancient Numenorian Elur as he was born onAtlantis during the days when the Elves were still dominating the island. Sauruman is unimagineably powerful, and his spells are some of the most powerful of any Magi in the entire world. Sauruman controls and dominates the ancient Numenorian fortress of Isengardwhich upon his betrayal became the center of the Kingdom of Orthanac.

Sauruman was born during the truly early days of the Numenorian people, and it was many years after his birth that the rebellion would begin which led to the creation of the Empire of Numeron. During this time he had no Magi potential and instead was the captain of a ship which sailed eastward towards Cathay and Ind. During this time he was extremely happy with his lot in life, and his happiness and loyalty was something that drew the Pantheon in when they begin to form the Istari. They saw him as a potential leader of the Order and he was loyal enough that he accepted without question. When the Elur were uttlerly decimated during the exodus of the Numenorians from Atlantis he became grief stricken by what the Elur had done and was speaking of dark things to his fellow Elur which frightened many people. This talk only stopped after his friend Gandalf intervened and talked him back into the Pantheon way of thinking. It was during the Downfall of the Numeron that he would begin to sway from his chosen beliefs for the second time but this time Gandalf was not aware of this and thus did not stop him from continueing. At first as the Dark Numenorians made their rise he joined with the rebels and fought against their dark wishes, and during this part of the conflict he continued to follow the Pantheon way of thinking to the letter. It was during the devestating destruction that followed the final battle of the war that led him to rethink his beliefs, and as he did this he retreated to his stronghold of Isengard where he used a devise gifted to him by a travelling merchant called a Palantir.
