Rickon Starke is the son of Eddard, and Cateyln Starke making him a member of House Tully through his mother, and a member of House Starke through his father. Rickon Starke has has five siblings in the form of Robb, Sansa, Bran, Arya Starke, and Jon Snow of which Robb is the heir apparent of the house and is a brilliant fighter as well as a growingly powerful commander of House Starke, his sister Sansa is being prepared for a political marriage that the house can arrange for her, his half brother Jon Snow is a trusted and skilled member of the House Starke forces, and his brother Brann is especially powerful in Magi and his sister Arya is a growing young girl that has shown skill in fighting.
Rickon Starke was born the final of the children of Eddard, and Catelyn Starke and for this reason he was the last in line for replacing his father thus making him of little political importance. In this position these children are usually trained hard on becoming great warriors or something useful to the house, since they cannot ever take over leadership, and the plans for Rickon were no differnet. Rickon is incredibly close to his direwolf shaggydog, and like many of the other Starke children you will very rarely find Rickon without his direwolf. Rickon Starke would remain at his brother Brann's side following the departure of much of his family during the conflict in the north. Following the departure of Brann Starke so that he could try and bring back Arya Starke it was Rickon Starke that became the Regent Lord of Stormwind until the return of his family.

His brothers find a litter of direwolves in the wolfswood north of Winterfell. Rickon adopts one of the wolves and names it Shaggydog.
