Robert Blackwood is the son of Tytos, and Mylessa Blackwood making him a member of House Rostwent through his mother, and a member of House Blackwood through his father. Robert Blackwood has six siblings in the form of Bryndan, Lucas, Hoster, Edmund, Alyn, Bethany, and Edmund Blackwood of which his oldest sibling Lucas was extremely headstrong and died after he engaged in a duel with a renowned swordsman from Pontus, his brother and the heir apparent Bryndan is the commander of Raventree the personal center of House Blackwood, his final brother Hoster is as headstrong as her other brother Lucas and for this reason he has been placed in charge of the punishment wing within the house to quench his desires, his sister Alyn is Magi user with whome has become the main advisor to Tytos who believes (incorectly) that her visions are preminitions as opposed to the Magi that it is,his sister Bethany is a studious nobles daughter who spends her days preparing for her future marriage, and his final sibling is Edmund Blackwood of whom is the lord of the block and fighting a silent civil war against his younger brother Bryndan Blackwood for the soul of House Blackwood.

Robert Blackwood would be born the seventh child of Lord Tytos Blackwood and thus at the time of his birth he stood fifth in the line of succession to House Blackwood far behind his older male siblings, and thus from the moment he was born the plan for him was for him to start a cadet branch of House Blackwood and take control of a ruined holdfast west of the Block. Growing up Robert Blackwood was very close with his brother Lucas Blackwood and from his brother he became quite devout in the worship of R'hllor of which he squired beneath his brother at a young age with the goal of becoming a Knight of R'hllor. Robert Blackwood would be sent from Raventree at the age of thirteen to the seat of his elder brother Edmund Blackwood as his father feared the influence of Bryndan Blackwood on young Robert, and arriving at the Block he would be welcomed with open arms by his brother Edmund and his family there, which was quite a change from the disasterous state of House Blackwood in Raventree. Coming of age and under the increasing influence of his elder brother Lucas Blackwood it would be Robert Blackwood that travelled to Raventree where he would become the mole of Lucas in the Blackwood capital and through this begin having strong feelings for Bryndan Blackwood's wife Lyndia Greenfield and before long the two were in an affair.

Growing up Robert Blackwood was very close with his brother Lucas Blackwood and from his brother he became quite devout in the worship of R'hllor of which he squired beneath his brother at a young age with the goal of becoming a Knight of R'hllor.

The death of my brother changed that pretty dramatically.” — Alyn Blackwood When Edmund Blackwood was fifteen he would travel alongside his brother Lucas Blackwood to Pontus where he and his brother were going to acquire a special sword for their father for his birthday. Joined as they were leaving by their sister Alyn Blackwood, and Alyn's lady in waiting Lyndia Greenfield the three would take a half dozen men with them, and made the boat trip to Pontus. During this trip he grew even closer to his brother, who while being a headstrong young man was also a very kind person on top of that. The two brothers were not the only ones that grew closer as Alyn Blackwood showed herself to be someone more intelligent then the brothers had thought she was capable of being, and because of that the three had a great time travelling to Pontus. Arriving in Pontus they were amazed at the splendor of the city of Pentos, and bathed in the riches of the markets and the immense goods available to them in the city. They would easily find the merchant that had the sword, and would be given a fair price for the sword of which they purchased. Once they had acquired the sword, and were preparing to leave the crater of Pontus it would be an arrogant joke towards their sister Alyn by Harlello Ostoran a member of The Crimson Contract that would cause Lucas to lash out at the man making the joke without thought of who the man was. Without a second thought Harlello Ostoran would duel Lucas and with Harlello a veteran of a hundred duels he would toy with Lucas of whom quickly realized he was going to lose and despite attempts by his siblings to end the fight he was unwilling and after only a minute Harlello had decapitated Lucas and when this happened as Alyn cried and Edmund stood stunned at the shocking death of Lucas Blackwood. Without any movement from Edmund Blackwood, he and Alyn would be horrified when the man would pick up the head of his brother and cut off his ear before throwing the now defaced head at his feet and walking away to the cheers of the crowd. Picking up their brother they were immediately taken from the city by Franzal Thorup the guard captain of their bodyguard troop but also a close friend of young Bryndan Blackwood of whom he had bonded with over their mutual desire for violence, and sexual depravity. returned to Raventree where their father was horrified that this had happened. Despite attempts to make the man pay for what had happened they discovered the man was a rich mercenary living in Pontus under the protection of one of their more rich merchents, and thus their revenge was not going to be able to be had. Bitterness Following the death of his brother Edmund was blamed heavily for his brother being killed, and because of this he was passed over for the Lordship of Raventree in favor of his less capable older brother Bryndan Blackwood, and instead was given Lordship over the Block. In the Black he would be married to Elana Gogen of House Gogen a lower level household, and even though he would become happy with her he felt this was yet another slight on him for something he had never done wrong. As he was being passed over in the Block his brother Byndan was being given the best of everything, and this only led to more and more resenment inside the heart of Edmund Blackwood.
