Once he was as great as his fame made him. His knowledge was deep, his thought was subtle, and his hands marvelously skilled; and he had a power over the minds of others. The wise he could persuade, and the smaller folk he could daunt. That power he certainly still keeps. There are not many in Europe that I should say were safe, if they were left alone to talk with him, even now when he has suffered a defeat. Gandalf, Elrond, Galadriel, perhaps, now his wickedness has been laid bare, but very few others.

Er-Saruman Isengard II. is the son of Saruman, and Aelina making him a member of House Isengard through his father and a member of the House of Finarfin through his mother as well as making Saruman half Numenorian, and Half Elven.

Sauruman is unimagineably powerful, and his spells are some of the most powerful of any Magi in the entire world. Sauruman controls and dominates the ancient Numenorian fortress of Isengard which upon his betrayal became the center of the Kingdom of Orthanac.

Sauruman was born the child of Aelina Finarfin one of the daughters of the Pheonix King of the Atmer Empire, and Saruman Isengard one of the generals of Elros Amendil the first emperor of the Numeron Empire and in this way Saruman was born during the true creation of the Empire of Numeron as the first child of one of the most powerful Numenorian lords. Growing up on Atlantis he lived through the uprising of the Numenorians and through the power of his father he was trained and schooled to become a leader of men, and it was also during this youth that he grew to hate the Elves after he discovered how his mother Aelina had been murdered during the rebellion as punishment for her affair with his father. Growing up he had no Magi potential and instead was the captain of a ship which sailed eastward towards Cathay and Ind, and during this time he was extremely happy with his lot in life, and his happiness and loyalty was something that drew the Pantheon in when they begin to form the Istari, and they saw him as a potential leader of the Order and he was loyal enough that he accepted without question. Saruman was in Cathay when the Downfall of Atlantis reached its peak and by the time he returned his family had travelled into Europe where they had settled in the region of Orthanac becoming the holder of a dutchy in that kingdom, and thus he spent several years with his family helping them establish themselves in Orthanac. Saruman would travel northward to the expanding fortress of Tail Orenlin where he met several powerful Magi forming relationships with them most notably becoming best friends with Gandalf, Hetricio, and the lover of Tilion Darelen and he would travel around the Empire of Numeron with these friends and it was during this time that he was the most happy in his life. Saruman would return to Orthanac as his family had risen further in power and at their wishes he established Tal Isengard a large Magi tower/fortress where the Orthanac Istari could be formed, and he would spend generations in Orthanac helping to establish the Orthanac Istari and turn them into something to be truly proud of. It was during the devastating destruction that followed the final battle of the war that led him to rethink his beliefs, and as he did this he retreated to his stronghold of Isengard where he hid a devise gifted to him by a travelling merchant called a Palantir. Saruman would fall in love with a fellow Elur the head of the Kirin Tor and he would spend years of happiness with Er-Tilion Darelen in Dalaran where his love for the Numenorian life returned to him for a time and during this he became involved in the growing plans to reuinite the Numenorian kingdoms of Central Europe. While imrisoned Tilion would be met in prison by Saruman of whom attempted to sway him to Sauron's side but instead Saruman was turned back to the Numenorian side and after forcing a promice from Saruman to attempt to rebuild Numeron Tilion would kill himself as he knew that Saruman would never leave unless he was dead and he knew he would never be allowed out of the prison. As a means of honoring the memory of his lover Er-Tilion Darelen Saruman would become heavily invested alongside Gandalf in the attempt being made by the Kingdom of Gondor to find a way of incorporating the Kingdom of Lorderon, and Kingdom of Tiras and would spend decades in Tiras expanding their Elur as was one of the requests of the Tiras in order for them to merge with Gondor. Saruman was inside of Tiras when it was assaulted by the Brann and fought heroically alongside his Tiras Elur but they were unable to resist the Brannish forces and he watched as most of the Tiras Elur were wiped out and with their deaths and the Brann victory the work he had done for decades collapsed and he retreated to Isengard with the Tiras Elur survivors. Following the Brann's destruction of the Numenorian Kingdom of Tiras it was Saruman of whom returned to Isengard and as the leader of the Orthanac Elur and it was after he had returned there that he begin to feel a new ideal coming on as despite no longer believing that Numeron could be rebuilt his lover Tilion had rebuilt his desire to protect the Numenorian people and all of this coalessed into a desire to protect the Orthanac Numenorians. The Kingdom of Orthanac's ally in the form of the Kingdom of Yullon came under the assault of a large Ostrogothic invasion force migrating into the area and while the Kingdom of Orthanac would thrown immense amounts of troops into the fighting the overstretched Gondorian central government was unable to send assistance thus when the Kingdom of Yullon was destroyed by the Ostrogoths there were many in Ostrogoth that came to resent central Gondor for their abandonment of Yullon. Following the destruction of Yullon it was Ostrogoth which was once again forced to deal with more trouble from the migrating Ostrogoths of whom formed the Empire of Cimbri and launched an invasion at northern Ostrogoth which would be quite bloody and during the fighting Saruman would lose several members of his own family and as once again Gondor did not send any real significant amount of troops despite eventually gaining victory the end had come for Saruman trusting in Gondor.

Downfall of Numeron

Main Article : Downfall of Numenor

The Fall of the Numeron Empire
This was the moment that was so destructive. So violent. So horrifying. It all of these things and so much more. It was so much that they started the calendar over.
Witch King 3

The Witch King was born in the massive Nemerian city of Tal Reagen which now is known as Lorderon. Braizen Highven IV. was the grandson of the much maligned Emperor Aleria Highven II. who many point to as the harbringer of the decline in Numeron. The line had survived but it was only Braizen's father Braizen Highven III. that had truly begun to restore some of the sanity to the Numenors. As a child Braizen was someone that many thought was going to be a good future ruler, and he loved history to the point that it was said he could name and describe the life of every Emperor in the long history of the Empire of Numeron. This boy would cease to exist after during his search for knowledge he and his gaurds were lured into a trap set by Sauron. Sauron would send a small party of his human servents to the area that Braizen was searching and in their possestion would be a Palantir that he had personally crafter just for Braizen's use. Sauron's servents would instigate a fight and during this fight the gaurds would kill the entire force of Sauron. As they searched the bodies for evidence of who these men could be, Braizen discovered the Palantir, and despite the warnings of his gaurd he took it into his possestion as they returned to his personal keep.

Coruption

"I could have brought my massive armies to bear against the Empire of Numeron and died. I could have done that but I took the option of corupting the heir to the Empire and then having them simply kill themselves. That seemed to me to be the easier option of the two."

-Sauron

When he returned to his keep he spent years devling into the mysteries of the Palantir, and he came to find that the Palantir would silently speak to him and tell him secrets. At first these secrets were nothing more then where to find rare books, or artifacts but eventually these whispers came to tell him darker things. The control the Palantir came to have over him was incredible as it changed his personality quite noticeably, and led him down a path that would lead to many troubles for Europe. During his early life there he started to though became known for his personal excesses and this troubled the current Emperor who had wanted to give him the throne when he passed. Noone could undertand what had changed in the once noble young man but something dramatic had happened to him and despite the many attempts to get through to him he continued to go down a dark path. Eventually the current Emperor decided that Braizen was too arrogant and selfish to be the Emperor upon his death, so he made his nephew Johan Highven the heir apparent upon his death. To say this didn't sit well with Braizen was an understatement. During this time his rants and excesses became especially bad to the point that the Emperor warned him that he would be removed from the Empire if he didn't calm himself. Braizen at this point would return once more to the devise that had given hims so many anwsers the last time he had found it in the Palantir.

The Ring

Sauron5

This time when he spoke to the Palantir he told it how everyone now hated him, and he begged the Palantir for an anwser to why this was happening to him. The Palantir whispered to him the location that would give him the anwsers to everything in his life, and that if he went there the person he met there was the man that would change everything in his life for the better. Braizen immediatly went to the location without any of his gaurds, and when he arrived their he saw a man in black armor illuminated by a gleaming white light. The man introduced himself as Sauron, and told Braizen that the only way to fix what had happened was to take a ring from him and to wear it with complete trust. Braizen trusted this Sauron because the voice was the same as the Palantir and so he took the ring and put it on, and that was the moment that he was now completely in the hold of Sauron who now was able to talk to him as a true solder of his army.

Flemeth2

The Spawn of Sauron

"I found it quite amusing when he was forced to come to me yet again for help. For a Dark Lord he sure needed a lot of help."
-Flemeth

Following the massive spree of executions, and the growth of a rebellion with Numeron the forces of Braizen begin marshalling all of their power to begin creating a creature of such power that they could destory any force the rebels could possibly muster against them. In order to do this Sauron leant his Magi power to the cosntruction of a creature that would come to be called the Spawn of Sauron. The creature wasn't completing quickly enough as they needed more Magi, and this annoyed Sauron to no end, as he realized he would need help in order to complete the project. In order to actually complete the project Sauron was forced to enlist the assistence of his old lover Flemeth of which brought him great shame but he accepted out of neccesity. The idea behind the Spawn of Sauron was to make a massive spider like creature that was unasailable by any convential force. Its creation would herald a victory due to the fact that no conventional force would have any hope of defeating that kind of creature.

Spawn of Sauron

The Spawn of Sauron

"I have never seen such wanten destruction. Where ever it moved it destroyed everything in its path. What hope was there for men when a creature as big as the mountains themselves turns against us."
-Fingon

The Spawn of Sauron changed the entire direction that the conflict had been going. With the spawn on the side of the Black Numenorians there was no possible way to confront them onto the field of battle. If you attempted to raise an army the spawn was simply impossible to defeat in a conventional manner. This meant that the war entered a phase in which would define the beggining of the war, in which the Spawn of Sauron simply roamed about Numenor and destroyed towns, cities, and armies seemingly at will. During this period the population of the Empire was dramatically reduced as entire cities were wiped out by the spawn, and no end was in sight.

The Battle of Tail Heagen

Main Article : The Battle of Tail Heagen

The Battle of Tail Heagen was the final culimination of the actions of the horrible spawn of Sauron. The spawn of Sauron had attacked unabated throughout Numeron destroying towns that rebelled at will, and no army could possibly match its power. It was during this period of great stregnth for Braizen that he would fall into the trap that became known as the Battle of Tail Heagen. He stopped focusing on taking out the leadership, and places of rebellion and instead attempted to simply wipe out the Atlantian people, and in this moment the rebellion leadership devised themselves a plan built on the betrayal of one of the Dark Numenorians most important orders in the Istari, which was the Numenor Empire's Magi order, and the only Atlantians who were able to use Magi in the entire Empire.

Tevion Gronich

The Istari

Main Article : Istari

"Tevion Gronich died for everything in this continent, and the sad part is how many have even heard his name. He died saving the world, and yet the only name to survive is Sauron."
-Gandalf

Tevion Gronich was the leader of the Istari during this period of the Downfall, and he was the sixth different leader as Braizen had been continuesly killing and replacing the leaders whenever the mood struck him. Tevion was loyal to his king despite the kings madness but he reached his end when the Spawn of Sauron begin simply killing people for no strategic reason beside genocide. As this genocide continued Tevion Gronich broke from the loyalists side of the war and took over half the Istari with him towards the massive rebel city of Tail Heagen. The Istari were opposed as they attempted to leave their massive temple, but by their betrayal had been so shocking and sudden that the Black Numenorians forces allowed most out of the city before the orders had made it down the chain of command that they should be stopped. These Istari would take casualities as they attempted to reach Tail Heagen and upon their arrival they would become shifted in their movements through the rise in Saruaman. Sarauman had a different way of thinking then Tevion and as they travelled their came to become a power struggle of sorts and many were shocked as Sarauman made remarks that suggested he wanted to violently take control of the loyalist movement if Tevion would not listen. In an act that would forever break their relationship Gandalf would side with Tevion and this caused the end of the internal struggle as Gandalf was held in great regard and noone dared to go against him.

Gandalf

Destroying the Spawn

"The World turned on its axis trying to either assist, or destroy the spell of man."
-Zeus

Now in Tail Heagen the Istari begin fashioning a massive spell which upon its completion would destory the spawn of Sauron. So much power was needed for the spell that every single Istari on the rebel side was involved in casting it, which brought on the notice of all the Istari on the dark side as well. With the eyes of the entire Empire now transfixed on Tail Heagen Braizen massed most of his army and marched on the massive city alongside the Spawn of Sauron. As the army marched for Tail Heagen basically the entire world. Every single Magi user. The Titans, and the Chaos Gods. Everyone became involved in either the casting of the spell or the attempt to stop the spell. It is said that so powerful was the Magi being conjured during the spell's incantation that the world itself shook for the entire time. Only one day away from Tail Heagen the spell was on the verge of casting but it just didn't have enough power to get it over the top. In this moment the Dark Numenorian Istari are said to have had many of their number slow their power and allow the spell to cast which caused the massive bolt of power to shoot from the moon all the way to Earth and completely eradicate the Spawn of Sauron along with much of the army of the Dark Numenorians. It is believed by most that their were significant elements within the Dark Numenorians who by this point understood that the Spawn of Sauron was only the beggining and that eventually Sauron would destroy everything.

Falling in Love

Prison and Death

While imrisoned Tilion would be met in prison by Saruman of whom attempted to sway him to Sauron's side but instead Saruman was turned back to the Numenorian side and after forcing a promice from Saruman to attempt to rebuild Numeron Tilion would kill himself as he knew that Saruman would never leave unless he was dead and he knew he would never be allowed out of the prison.

Brann Invasion of the Riverlands

Main Article : Fall of the Riverlands

The Brannish Invasion
This is the true end of the Empire of Numeron. After this no Numenorian European empire shall ever exist.
Fall of the Riverlands
The Brann were a force of nature. Perhaps the most violent consequence of the Great Migration.
Unknown Scribe

The Riverlands would begin to become dominated by the Brann as under the leadership of the Brannish warlord Harren Hoare of whom battled against the forces of Denmark in Germania for some time causing enough damage during his raids that he was given a vast amount of gold by the Teutons who filtered him to the south alongside a very large army, and people in the entirety of the Brannish People. Through the assistance of the State of Denmark they are fed and protected on the road out of the Imperial Empire of Germania reaching the area of Slovakia without incident. Upon reaching Slovakia and with the assistance of the Frankish forces of Westbridge they would be taken by boat to south of Westbridge where the racist Imperial forces wanted to sow chaos among the rising power of the Kingdom of Lorderon and they would stay briefly before they were once again paid by the Westbridge Franks to go south where they entered the Riverlands. Entering the Riverlands the Brannish under Harren Hoare would quickly declare war on the Atlantian Kingdom of Tiras of which while in disarray at the time still controlled the entire region of the Riverlands and was in serious talks with Lorderon, and Gondor to merge together forming an Empire. The initial fighting would be disastrous to the forces of Tiras of whom having never recovered from the Downfall of Numeron generations previous were crushed into three engagements losing control of all of northern Riverlands, and the center was near complete loss before the arrival of reinforcements from Lorderon. Several Gondorian Istari were present during this fighting including Saruman, and Gandalf of whom fought heroicly alongside his Tiras Elur in these early battles but they were unable to resist the Brannish forces and he watched as most of the Tiras Elur were wiped out severely weakening the Tiras forces. Harren Hoare would lead the Brann into a massive battle near what is now the lands of the Blackwoods and would crush a combined Tiras, and Lorderon army forcing there surrender and retreat from the Riverlands.

Exodus of the Atlantians

Numeron is dead Gandalf. Now you see that don't you.
Saruman

Following the disasterous Atlantian defeat at the Battle of Blackwood they would be given a brief reprieve by the injury of Harren Hoare of whom would become bedridden for weeks and during this time his brother Harras took command of the Brann and negotiated with the Atlantians despite commands by his brother Harren to put the Atlantians to the torch. Harras was soft on the Atlantians due to falling in love with an Atlantian noble girl, and when Harren got better and tried to order the victorious Brann to kill the retreating Atlantians it would be Harras that murdered his brother becoming the leader of the Brann. During this exodus among the number that retreated from the Riverlands was Saruman of whom was emotionally devestated by the failure in the Riverlands and following this would basically give up his belief that Numeron could be rebuilt.

Fall of Yullon

The Kingdom of Orthanac's ally in the form of the Kingdom of Yullon came under the assault of a large Ostrogothic invasion force migrating into the area and while the Kingdom of Orthanac would thrown immense amounts of troops into the fighting the overstretched Gondorian central government was unable to send assistance thus when the Kingdom of Yullon was destroyed by the Ostrogoths there were many in Ostrogoth that came to resent central Gondor for their abandonment of Yullon.

Cimbri-Orthanac War

Following the destruction of Yullon it was Ostrogoth which was once again forced to deal with more trouble from the migrating Ostrogoths of whom formed the Empire of Cimbri and launched an invasion at northern Ostrogoth which would be quite bloody and during the fighting Saruman would lose several members of his own family and as once again Gondor did not send any real significant amount of troops despite eventually gaining victory the end had come for Saruman trusting in Gondor.

Coruption of House Imrahil

Main Article : House Imrahil

The-chronicles-of-narnia-prince-caspian-20080422050936966 640w
"My father was a good man hooked in by an even better liar."
-Balian Imrahil

It was during his fourteenth birthday that Sauron launched his campaign to turn the leadership of Dol Amroth towards his sphere of influence. Sauron had already silently pushed Umbar over to his sphere of influence and all he needed was for the vast armies of Dol Amroth to sit idle, as well as the huge trading missions were stopped going into Gondor. He promised the royalty of Dol Amroth unending wealth if they would simply declare independance and then not assist Gondor during the coming conflict. The vast majority of the population was extremely loyal to Gondor so this idea wasn't very popular and to keep control the members of Dol Amroth begin spreading lies amongst the nobles about Gondor's betrayal of them. They did not attempt to turn the opinion of the public, as the public was so against independance that it was a hopeless fight. As the nobles turned against Gondor they moved against Gondor's influence in the region and begin targetting Gondor loyalist houses, and this begin to turn the sway away frrom Gondor in the region. As this continued though the Gondorian loyalists became unified under House Elena of whom attempted to get word to Gondor about what was happening but it was at this time that the betrayal of Sauruman would be revealed.

Sauruman

Betrayal of Sauraman

Sauruman was a member of the Istari and thus he would travel from the lands of Gondor south to Dol Amroth and it was during one of these travels that he would be sent by Sauron in order to end the resistence of Dol Amroth. While the forces of Castamir held the borders therebye not allowing any messengers to reach Gondor about Dol Amroth the Istari Sauruman was greeted as a savior. He infiltrated the leadership of House Elena and became extremely close to its leader in Aradur Elena of whom took control of the Anroth city of Linhir and begin to gather support for his counter revolution. As Aradur led this the forces of House Imrahil moved their forces to besiege Linhir, but even as they did this they begin to lose control of the lands because the population was so against working with Sauron. It would be Aradur's son Oropher who would tell him that they were going to win the land and they didn't need Saramaun and his trickery to win this. His speach has become now legendary amongst the halls of House Elena.

"Father ninety percent of this land believe in you. The only men who do not wish to follow you into whatever abyss awaits us if Sauron wins, are those who like you are listenting to this wizard with nothing but lies steaming from his toung. We must turn away from him, and do this on our own or we shall wake up one day to find his dagger in all of our backs."
-Oropher Elena

Aradur though was ensnared by the Grey Istari and would mass a large force and prepare to battle the forces of House Imrahil. The two forces would meet outside Linhir which was still under siege, but it was here where just as Oropher had advised the trickery of Saramaun would come full circle and he would assasinate Aradur, and three of his sons along with much of the leadership of the rebellion. With the leadership in tatters the rebels surrendered, and while scattered resistence continued, the destruction of much of House Elena was the basic end of the resistence of Dol Amroth. With the end of the resistence the forces of House Imrahil suffered a huge loss when Balian Imrahil the at the time heir to the throne gathered his siblings and fled the capital of Belfalas. His departure caused a massive manhunt for him and his siblings but they were protected by the people of Dol Amroth who were violently opposed to his father and his desires.

Oropher

Escape of Balian, and Oropher

Oropher was left in charge of the defences of Linhir in the case they lost the battle so he was defending the city when he saw the surrender of his father's force. Realizing quickly that the situation had changed he gathered as many of his family, and loyalists that he could and silently made his way to the southern port of Rinlis where he planned to take a boat and silently sail to the port of Venetia and then north in Lucerne where he would take the safter back way into Gondor. As he left the city news broke to Balian that Oropher had escaped and he made the hopeful guess that Oropher would travel the southern road and not go west. While travelling on the road south he and his force would be stopped by Balian Imrahil of whom would beg him to take his family with him or elce he would be forced to take part in this henious act.

"There was always the distinct chance that I was wrong and that Oropher was going west. Had he of made that decision me and my siblings would be hidden away in Belfalas. Locked in our rooms forced to remain prisoners of a land long berift of Lordship."

-Balian Imrahil

Oropher would take Balian and his siblings and they would arrive safely in Rinlis where the population snuck them inside and they boarded boats. Weeks later they would arrive in Stormwind where they would rest before they made the final treck to Minas Tirith and it was while staying there that they heard that Gondor had been betrayed from within and was fighting for its life. The group would then leave nearly immediatly and make the three day treck on horseback to Minus Tirith of which they found the city nearly drained as the majority of the town had gone east to defend from the onslaught.

Power

By far Saruman's greatest power (and the only one he was able to retain after the downfall of Isengard) is speech. He seems to have the ability to bend any but the absolute strongest minds to his will, simply by speaking to them. Even with Isengard broken and Saruman's treachery revealed, Aragorn speculated that very few besides Gandalf, Galadriel, and Elrond (all bearers of Rings of Power themselves) could resist Saruman's persuasive allure if left alone with him. Gandalf exploited the weakness of this power when he confronted Saruman; in trying to enchant some in the company, he left others out of his designs, and thus could not ensnare everyone at once. However, even in this situation, it is said that only Gandalf himself remained totally unmoved. Saruman later used his persuasive power to escape Orthanc, convincing Treebeard to let him go.

Although the snowstorm on Caradhras, which defeated the Fellowship, is not explicitly stated in the books to be Saruman's work, it is said that a "fell voice" is on the air; Peter Jackson's trilogy goes further and openly shows Saruman influencing the weather. When Gandalf was still the Grey, Saruman was able to capture him through unknown means.

Saruman was extremely learned in ringlore and mechanics, and his knowledge enabled him to create great forges, as well as a blasting weapon strong enough to blow apart the wall at Helm's Deep. Unfortunately, it was Saruman's extensive knowledge of the Rings of Power that led to his downfall, as he became enamored of the power of the rings, and particularly the One Ring.
