House Bedroog11

Tar-Fastiv Bedroog was the Gondorian mayor of Umbar before the Gondor Civil War, and the son of two members of House Bedroog making him the one time Patriarch of the household. Fastiv had one sibling in the form of Tavin Bedroog and his brother would be assasinated during the rebellion that sparked the Gondor Civil War but before this he was a brave man who also held loyalty to Gondor in his heart before personal gain. Goldwhine Bedroog would come to marry Fastiv Bedroog in an attempt by her family to gain further influence but shortly into the marriage Goldwhine came to love the Umbar nationalist movement which led to distance between the two. He had five children of which one was the eventual person who would kill him in Castamir Bedroog.

Fastiv is to this day remembered as a man that was loyal to the end, and even those amongs the highest levels of the new Umbar leadership have some positive thoughts about his loyalty to his cause. This image has left his memory both tanished by what his children have done, and also greatly enhased by the fact that he could have lived if he had only given in to the rebels.

Fastiv was a lone voice of suport for Gondor, and he spent his life trying to bridge the gap between Umbar and Gondor. Although he never had much success at it, he never gave up hope that one day the two would reconsile their differences for the betterment of both societies. He eventually met his end when his oldest and most beloved son Castamir became the leader of the anti-Gondorian movement and was forced to kill his father after Fastiv refused to denounce Gondor and join his new Kingdom.

History[]

Early History[]

Fastiv was actually born in the Arnor city of Fornost , but travelled at the age of 2 with his parents to the Gondor city of Pelagir . His life in Pelagir was nice and his family was kind to him for the days of his early life. When he came of age Fastiv entered the Gondor army and during his time their he proved himself as more of an administrator then a soilder. During this time he also came to know Aragorn Elessar very well and this relationship led him to believe very strongly in his rule. This loyalty would carry him for the rest of his days, and in this way he was sent to the most difficult to hold area of Gondor in the port region of Umbar.

Mayor of Umbar[]

Marriage to Goldwhine Bedroog[]

Goldwhine Bedroog would come to marry Fastiv Bedroog after her parents had spent months arranging the marriage, and at first the two were very close and had two sons in short succesion of their marriage.

Collapse of the Marriage[]

As the two came to live within Umbar more permently it was Goldwhine that came to become involved in the Umbar nationalist movement of which at the same time Fastiv was moving more fully into the Faithful section of Umbar and this would bring about constant arguement between the two, and despite hving three more children the birth of Lanamir would signal the end, and they would never share the same bed again following her birth.

Rise of Castamir Bedroog[]

Rise of a Rebellion
I look at this man before me and I tell you now that I do not recognize you. Once I had a son named Castamir. I loved that boy with every ounce of my heart, and it saddens me beyond any arrow that I have to live with the fact that boy is dead. You are a ghost. A ghost....
Castamir Bedroog
I was blind during my early days in Umbar. I couldn't see past the glitter of the wealthy quarter, and that blinded me to the fact that the large portion of our people were living in a near state of poverty. When I brought this issue to my father's attention he ignored it. I felt slighted and it was this slight that caused me to move into the underground of the Umbar people.
Castamir Bedroog

Before he came to rule of Umbar he was the son of the Gondor loyalist mayor Fastiv Bedroog of Umbar of whome was a man that he held a very high level of respect for. Castamir and his father were so close that only the relationship that Fastiv had with Castamir's brother Aravir would be close to the bond that the two shared. This bond led to Castamir travelling with his father to Gondor with his brothers and sisters, and during this trip he would for the first time listen to his brother Vastamir as he whispered to him about the way the Gondorians looked down on them as a people. Despite the growing influence of his brother Vastamir the relationship between Castamir and Fastiv remained resolute throughout the trip, but cracks continued to grow through his brother Vastamir and as well due to a growing jelousy over the favoritism of their brother Aravir. This high regard would slow for him a bit as Castamir became closer with his brother Vastamir of whome had a great obsession with the Umbar people and the way in which they lived. Together the two of them would come to explore the darker parts of the great port city, and this continued for many years. Eventually they came to discover certain elements of the city that they had known little of in the richer quarter that they were born and spent their youth in, and it was here that the two would be changed for the worse. While they travelled about the poorer sections they discovered the extreme poverty that existed and while this made Vastamir nearly immediatly join a small group of wealthy nobles who were said to be fighting to uplift the Umbar people it had the effect of causing Castamir to bring this issue to his father's attention in the hopes his father would do something about it.

Growing Hate[]

Fastiv Bedroog
When I walked into my father's study to discuss my problems with him he was with this horrible women I had met a few times before. She stood their with this look on her face that told me I was unwanted, and I attempted to be strong and resist her pearcing eyes but they weakened me and perhaps because of this I did not speak as I would have to my father.
Castamir Bedroog

Castamir arrived at his father's keep and they told him that his father was at the home estate so he went there immediatly to meet with his father. When he arrived he saw that his father was sitting at a desk reading a book of which he could not identify as it was in Numenorian and his knowledge of the language was weak. What he did notice was Melavia standing against a wall in the corner of the room staring at him with discust as he walked in. He ran through his problems with his father, and his father responded kindly but didn't give the anwser that Castamir had wanted and before he had left Melavia would throw her insults at Castamir and where once his father might have defended him, this women now had a hold of him and Fastiv just sat motionless as Melavia threw insults at him. Castamir and this High Gondorian noblewomen would continue to insult back and forth, and it was only when Melavia let loose with a torrent of insults against the people of Umbar that Fastiv stepped in. Castamir left that room with only one thought in his mind, and that was the knowledge that he was now going to change this place so that he and his people would never live this way again. The way that Melavia the Gondorian high noble looked at him was the final straw in the coffin for Castamir Bedroog.

The Movement[]

Tar-Ellesia
It didn't take me long to discover the Rebelion as Vastamir had already intigrated himself into the movement and it took less then a word to him to get me in. Once I was inside though I found the same weaknesses that existed in my father's cabinet. Infighting, and greed ruled the day. They cared nothing for the direction of the Umbar people, and that was something I would change myself.
Castamir Bedroog

Returning now to the side of his brother Vastamir the deal between the two was simple in that moment. They would decide that they would take control of the Umbar Indpendance movement and lead it to the point that they could finally be free of the rotten influence of Gondorians over them, and they also agreed that the two would share rulership once they had rid the lands of Gondor. As Castamir, and his brother Vastamir attempted to move into the underground rebellion they discovered that his brother was already quite grown in the movement and thus it took little effort to actualy get in. As he grew within the outside he came to meet a man named Adumir Dortexia of whom was the heir to the very powerful House Dortexia family but had joined the movement after his brothers death while travelling northward into Gondor. Once he was inside he became disgusted by the amount of effort the movement placed into expanding their own personal wealth, and how little they cared about improving the city as a whole. He even watched as his brother of whom he placed the utmost respect watched on as the corupted elements of the movement used the ideals of the movement to enrich themselves instead of trying to gain actual independence. He remained quiet with these beliefs and decided that he would take control of the movement himself, and in order to do this he needed to make a name for himself that was such that when he started to rise he could point to his reputation as a loyalist to Umbar. It was at this point that he would go to the island of Talbru with his sister Amandil, his close friend Vai`losse Aldamiriand his cousin Mir`ihel Bedroog where the three would plan to meet with nationalists on the island and Castamir would plan to take the island as his first movement.

Talbru was the first place I truly came to understand how foolish man is. People just sit and let you twist them. They were all fools.
Castamir Bedroog

Arriving on the island he was greeted by two young Black Numenorians in the form of Eadur Tellenonia, and Telduhmeir Ahkrad of whose families controlled most of the island of Talbru. Discussing things with them the group would bond to the point of Castamir arranging a marriage between Telduhmeir and his sister, while arranging Eadur to marry Castamir`s close friend Vai`losse sealing the relationship between House Bedroog and the island of Talbru. Castamir would during this time make a major impression on Salkhor Tellenonia of whom was the High Lord of Talbru and thus the most powerful man on the island, and during their talks he turned the timid man who was indiferent to the power of Gondor into an Umbar nationalist who would promice all the ships and men of Talbru once the war arrived. Following the success of his time in Talbru he would be further advised by the lords of Talbru that he needed to turn Umbar more to his side as the coruption he saw was widespread and to do this he decided to go about assasinating a high level Gondor loyalist using his name within the rebellion of which he was now nicknamed Tar-Castamir.

Murder of an heir[]

Tar-Jaxone Valia
Tar-Ellesia was my friend. He was a good person trying to do the best he could in a city that was so corupt it didn't even realize it was the problem.
Aravor Bedroog

He would search for the perfect person and eventually find him in Tar-Ellesia Valia of House Valia of whome was a merchant leader of whome controlled a large portion of the wealth of the town and was using this in a pro-Gondorian way. Before Castamir went about killing Tar-Ellesia he went about making sure that this man's wealth would become his once he was dead and he did this by finding his heir and proceeding to over the course of several weeks to indoctrinate him into his way of thinking. The heir in the form of Tar-Jaxone Valia would become a dire hard loyalist of Castamir and swore and oath to Castamir. Castamir would take a small group of men that were dire hard loyal to him and he would break into Tar-Ellesia's house and he along with his men would kill all the occupants inside except for Tar-Ellesia of whome they dragged into the merchant square while they all were wearing their unique Umbar armor that consieled who they were. Castamir would listen to the begging of this man the entire way there as he threatened Castamir and warned him of how powerful he was, and then finally begin attempting to bribe the man. All this was for nothing as in front of a massive crowd Castamir took him to the top of the paviolion and in front of everyone he sliced his head off and threw it to the ground before making sure everyone knew this was the cost of being loyal to Gondor.

You will from this day have two choices. You may choose to remain loyal to some distant throne that cares nothing for us, and face the same fate as this traitorous bastard. Or you may join with me and the Sons of Umbar as we take this land back from the greed and stupidity that are destroying it. The choice is yours.
Castamir Bedroog

Following this action he now controlled the vast wealth of House Valia, and had created a reputation that was something his oponents in the rebellion could not hope to resist. His rise following this was something nearly meterioc in that he joined the council of the rebellion alongside his brother and together the two slowly destroyed the old rebellion leadership and put in place people that were loyal to them and the direction that they wanted to go. After two years of this growth he had created a position for himself at the top that was basically a kingly position in that they no longer voted on things, he simply held a council and took their ideas and then decided what direction they were going to go. Over this two years he created a support amongst the people that grew from obscurity under the old rulers towards the vast majority of the population under him. He did this through systematically taking control over the wealthy members of Umbar and making them understand that the old greedy way of living was gone.

My rise came with it a line in the sand. On one side of the line were the people who clung to the old ideas of personal greed, and a fake nationalistic idea. On the other side were those loyal to me and Umbar. Over the course of two years I made sure the other side of the line was covered with blood.
Castamir Bedroog

After killing several of these men and taking control of their empires for himself the others fell in line, and this created a building boom and a economic explosion that brought huge amounts of money into the city, and into the rebelion. He used this wealth to distribute food to those who were going hungry, and he built huge contruction works within Umbar that gave jobs to thousands, and housed the homeless. On top of this he financed the creation of two large and permenent areas of the future Empire of Umbar. The first was the Antheon Gaurd of whome would be an extremely elite portion of the Umbar Army which would serve a purpose similar to the Order of the Golden Dragon inside the Kingdom of Lucerne. The second was the actual standing army of Umbar which unlike the usual Umbar forces which were just randomly recruited these solders would be professional solders and thus they would be better equipped and trained then most.

The Murder of Fastiv Bedroog[]

Fastiv Bedroog1
I am sorry father. Nothing truly changes until the old is removed. Your the old. It doesn`t matter anymore that I love you. Your simply in the way of progress now.
Castamir Bedroog

With his control over the region of Umbar nearly complete the only remaining obstacle to his rise was the only real powerful man loyal to Gondor left in Umbar in the form of his father. Castamir would several months before the eventual killing of Fastiv go to his father and warn him that he should tone down his retoric as the people of Umbar were turning against Gondor, and he heavily hinted to his father about the loyalty of several men who were loyal to Castamir. At first Castamir planned to have him exiled, but this became very unpopular amongst his commanders after Fastiv executed several members of the Umbar nationalists including all those who Castamir had hinted were loyal to him. Unwilling to lose his power and seeing that his father valued his loyalty to Gondor over his own son Castamir would begin planning the assasination of his father of which he would spent nearly two months doing - of which he later told Sarah Mason he only needed a few minutes of planning the act, but needed months to accept it - until finally after two months he put his plan into motion. Entering the Stewards Tower in Umbar with his forces they would kill the defenders of Fastiv in a short siege of the tower, before he entered the court of his father where he found his father sitting on the Stewards chair wounded from an arrow to the shoulder. Accompanied by his brother Vastamir, and his cousin Mir`ihel he would confront his father where the two once close family members would devolve as the loyalist Fastiv insulted his children for their lack of honor with his final words being for Castamir to kill him so he need not look at his traitorous children one second longer.

Gondor Civil War[]

The End of the Line[]

Main Article : Battle of Narvine Fields

The End of the Gondor Civil War
They will not sit idle after our victories in Cair Andros and Ethring. We need to move quickly if we are to end this conflict. We need to look at this map and force their hand in a single fight. Force them to attack where we want them to.
Gondor Civil War2
This was the moment where it shifted. I couldn't see it then, but looking back I know that was the moment they lost.
Aragorn Elessar II.

The War would finally come to an end when the forces of Mordor and Umbar would team up to attack the Gondorian Fortress of Narvine. The forces of Mordor were reeling from the miraculous defense of Cair Andros, and before this the utter defeat of the Umbar forces attempting to destroy House Mason at Ethring. The Mordor forces begin to regroup around Minus Morgal and prepared to move once again into Gondor this time they were led by the Witch King and their force was massive along the lines of the original armies attacking throughout the land. The Gondor scouts were especially well alert during the early movements and because of this the Gondorian army was able to arrive in Narvine a day before the Mordor, and Umbar armies did, and this turned the battle into more of a siege.

The Prelude[]
Tar-Vislan
Two victories are far better then two losses but let us be honest about the situation. They have to massive armies of which we have to deal with but the real problem is closing the gap of Minas Morgal. If it remains open they will just send more men through. We need to close that gap.
Aragorn Elessar II.

The fortress was the main backbone of the eastern Gondorian defences and for this reason it was especially well prepared for the attack that everyone knew was inevitable. Before the Battle had begun the fortress had its command handed over to the twin brothers Tar-Arannoa Ellesar, and Tar-Vislen Elessar of whom brought a large force of Tower gaurds of whome were not foreseen by the forces of Mordor as they moved within. The forces of Mordor were at first moving against Minus Ithil but they discovered the fortress was heavily defended by two of the Numenorian commanders in the form of Tur-Halbaard Elessar, and Edrion Elessar thus the forces of Mordor used a large Orc force to besiege Minus Ithil while they moved the total force southwards towards Narvine in a move that would cut off the main Gondor force in the south from the rest of Gondor. As the force from Mordor moved south the main thrust of Umbar moved northward towards the main Gondor Force at Ethring which forced the main force to remain in place. King Arathorn Elessar understood that the forces of Gondor were completely surrounded in the south but with the army in the north in tatters following the defence of Cair Andros, and the central army still stuck fighting against the army of Sarauman in Osgiliath and besieged in Minus Ithil he had no choice but to attempt to defeat the Umbar force once and for all.

The Siege Begins[]
Siege of Narvine

The Army of Mordor moved quickly against the forces at Narvine as they were determined to take the fortress and quickly trap the rest of the Gondor Army around Ethring where they would be picked apart and destroyed. Led by the Witch King the army of nearly three hundred thousand attacked the fortress nestled into the hills which had a defence army of little over sixty thousand and was weakened from nearly two years of fighting. The seige begin quickly with the forces of Mordor swarming at the walls in huge numbers which had little hope of defeating the defenders but each night this continued which made the defenders weaker and weaker. After three days of fighting the forces of Mordor had lost almost seventy five thousand to the defenders but the defenders were down some ten thousand dead while another fifteen thousand were wounded. While the defenders awaited the fourth day and the coming of their eventual fall the situation in Ethring changed dramatically.

Massacre at Barfurd[]
Castamir and Vastamir Bedroog

Along the Umbar front the forces of Gondor were opposed by the massive army of Umbar of which was situated in the large city of Barfurd. The Umbar army was very large but at the same time they were led by the brother of Castamir Bedroog in Vastamir Bedroog of whome was a skilled but inexperianced leader. Arathorn saw that his Kingdom was going to fall unless he changed things dramatically and thus he created a plan where a large force of Gondor Cavalary would move eastward around the border with Umbar through the mountain passes there and move to the east of the Umbar army unaware. The sentries along the Umbar border were massive as Castamir had drilled his brother to death that he needed to be careful about ambushes, but the mountain path was so inaccesable and far away from the front that there were very few sentries there and what few were there were of little skill and even less prepared. The Cavalry moved quickly and was able to destroy the few scouts in the mountain pass and arrived on the eastern swamps of Barfurd four days after they had left. With their arrival Arathorn moved the entire Gondor force southward and provoked the Umbar army into action by massacring the scouts located along the border and thus at the same time bliding the Umbar forces to their movement. Vastamir sent word to his brother who told him that he would move a relief force to Barfurd and that Vastamir would not move until he arrived. Vastamir was prepared to follow this but Arathorn begin using scouts to taunt the defenders and Vastamir suffered insults from his commanders which forced him to make the rash decision to move the Umbar army north in order to defeat Arathorn.

Massacre of Barfurd

The moment the Umbar army moved north Castamir got word and moved his force quicker to the location but he was a week away and had no real hope of arriving in time. Vastamir led the forces north and despite whispers from his commanders that they had little knowledge of what they were facing he continued north due to the fact that he was heavily influenced by several rash commanders within his retinue. As he moved north he was shadowed by the ten thousand cavalry of the Gondor force of whome moved in behind and to the eastern side of him in preperation for the coming Battle. As the two sides engaged in Battle the Gondorians did not make any attempt to be agressive and the Umbar forces assumed this was because they were so much more numerous and they doubled their attack. As the entire Umbar force was engaged the cavalry moved into the Battle and hit the unprepared Umbar forces in the rear and side. As Vastamir realized the mistake he made he charged forward in the hopes of defeating Arathorn before his forces were completely massacred. He would make his way to Arathorn who was heading for him and the two would duel and when the dust settled Vastamir lay dead along with the entire army of Umbar. Following this victory the forces of Gondor moved relatively undamaged northward towards the Battle of Narvine and the forces of Mordor were completely unaware of this movement.

The End of the Siege[]
Duel at Narvine
My came to me the night before the battle. He had a look of such confidence that when the words tumbled out of his mouth speaking of his fears I could barely recognize him as speaking them. My father had always carried himself with an almost arrogant confidence, so to see him speak with fear was a jarring experience.
Aragorn Elessar II.

The fourth day of the Siege of Narvine would come and as was the case everyday the forces of Mordor moved against the city but this time they were in trouble as the main Gondor force was watching from the hills nearbye and was awaiting this attack. During the enseuing siege the Gondor Army under Arathorn moved north towards the seige and hit the rear of the attacking force. Isilmo was in the skies overhead and was the first to see the attackers, and this was followed shortly after by the Witch King of whome both attempted to shift there forces but realized quickly that the army was far to invested in the siege to turn completely and they watched as a massive melee ensued between the Gondor forces and the now completely surrounded Mordor army of which started to turn into a massacre. As this happened the Witch King and Isilmo landed at the heart of the Gondor army and begin to fight at the center. There presence caused great fear and nearly routed the Gondorians until Arathorn and his son Aragorn arrived on the scene and engaged them in battle. During this ensueing conflict Arathron would be struck down along with his second in command in Malvo Openias and all hope seemed lost until Aragorn stepped forward and fought him. While they fought his uncle was killed by Isilmo but was then forced to pull back after Tar-Vislan defeated him and nearly killed his Wraith. With the Mordor force nearly completely massacred the Witch King looked around and realized that he was completely surrounded and thus pulled back leaving the field completely in Gondor's hands. With the defeat of this force the forces of Mordor no longer had the forces capable of winning the conflict and Sauron watching his army in near defeat ordered the general retreat from Gondor's lands of which the final force to leave was Sarauman of whome was harried by Gandalf their entire time leaving.
