The Underfort

The Underfort is a small underground fortifiication within the Kingdom of Lucerne built north of the Underway, and south of Thaig Aeducan with the purpose of facilitating communication with the Thaig as well as a northern expansion of Lucerne. 

The Underfort is ruled over by House Yetris of whom has taken on the title of Landsgrave of the Underfort, and the Baron of the Province of the Northern Valleys, and commands over the entire fortress, but they are sworn to House Lovie while they have two vassals beneath them controlling the Valley of Drael, and Valley of Foell.

The Underfort was constructed under the command of Alice Lovie of whom founded House Yetris from a House Lovie Hedge Knight to lead the fort, and the two valleys they would be given as land. The Underfort became a bastion for communciation between the two forces of Karak Izor, and Lucerne, and would gain a small population of Dwarves of whom lived within the Underfort mining for minerals west of Seatown. The Underfort would grow further when two Hedge Knights from the Riverlands were given land in the form of the Valley of Foell, and the Valley of Drael and became vassals of House Yetris. This expansion continued during Westros where Alice describes the small fort she built years ago as becoming a real source of population and trade as the two valleys grow faster and faster.

History

Construction

The Underfort was constructed under the command of Alice Lovie of whom founded House Yetris from a House Lovie Hedge Knight to lead the fort, and the two valleys they would be given as land.

The Underfort

The Underfort I come here on the wishes of the King of the Valley. My brother wishes for the two of us to become friends again. Too much has happened between our two people for us to ever be as indifferent to each other as my father forced upon us.

“My brother was conquering the east, and I knew we had to further secure the lands we already had. The Dwarves were the first step in rebuilding what our father had lost us. ” — Alice Lovie With the conquest of the Riverlands, and Fairmarket, the situation in the east was dramatically becoming one of major strength for Lucerne, but Alice and William discussed the need to rebuild ties with the Dwarves if nothing else then to secure their rear. Alice would command the construction of a small fort called the Underfort northward from the direction the Underway had went. The Underfort was constructed close to two mountain valleys of which they were able to get into using old Dwarven tunnels, and inside the valleys (mainly the western one named the Valley of Drael) they would construct farms which would feed the population in the Underfort and form a home for those living in the fort. Using maps they had in the House Lovie library they were able to make their way north enough to be met by Dwarves from Thaig Aeducan. Telling the forces in the Underfort that they wished to meet with the Dwarves the meeting was accepted and the Dwarves sent a large diplomatic troop to meet them at the Underfort. Alice Lovie would gather a force of some one hundred men at arms, and Leven Martell, Nicoli Machieveli, as well as several other nobles and head to the Underfort where she planned to meet with the Dwarves. Thaig Aeducan under Clan Snowblown understood they needed the human assistence and were more then willing to entertain alliance talk. “I had no reason to believe the Dwarves were anything but our allies. In his own writing my father had spoke of how he had been insulted by the leader of the Dwarves years before and since then had gone out of his way to cut off contact. ” — Alice Lovie The meeting took place in the Underfort and Alice would meet with Dori Snowblown of whom introduced himself as the Senator for the Thaig of Aeducan. They would meet for several days and over this time Dori would explain to Alice much about the history of the Valley of Lucerne, as well as the mountains. Revealing to her that despite the assertions of her father the Goblins were not defeated after the Driving Tide, but in fact were slowly overwhelming the Dwarves due to their superior ability to replace losses. Dori would send one of his sons in Tori Snowblown to go with them, and he became the squire of Leven Martell despite his vastly superior age. Alongside this trade deals were signed and promices made of further advancement of their relationships. The Rise of Lucerne I saw the destruction of the world, and knew I had to stop it. There was nothing left to do but become bigger then everyone else. The Empire was never going to be the beacon the world needed it to be. Westros was on fire. The Bretonians had reached for the stars and been burned. And the old shadow of Numeron was fading far too quickly. It was left to us in Lucerne to change the fate of all those who wished to reject darkness. We were the last hope for a world who had long since given up on believing. "I was born in Karak Mulgar. Have you read of this place?" "My Great Grandfather and my brothers original namesake wrote long on the Dwarves of the Mountains. In this writing he wrote of two major cities in Mulgar, and Izor." "It is good that you have read on my home. Your people I find are always missing knowledge on the small things." "I'm glad that I do not disappoint you Lord Snowblown" "You do not disappoint me Lady Alice of House Lovie. I to may follow the trivialities of nobility princess. The reason I bring it up is not to embarrass but to tell you of who I am. I was born there you see princess. I was born there, and it was a place of pure beauty. The way you describe your home makes me long to see my own, but do you know what the worse of it is?" "What is the worst of it?" "I shall never see my home again. I can still see in my mind every inch of my former home. I may see it but the pain of that is horrifying as the monsters that fill these mountain peaks have taken the reality of my home and left only memories for me." "Surely if you know of my homeland young one, you have heard of the Numenorians?" "I know of the Numenorians Lord Snowblown, but I never knew they were so widespread in the area." His son entered the room alongside Leven and he waited for his son and Leven to take a seat before continuing. "'Then one day our trading partners were just gone. Their vast city of 'Zeor-Ahrami was in ruins. Thousands upon thousands dead." "What could have killed so many. The Numenorians were not a weak opponent." The maps of the old world showed that the Empire of Numeron had ruled over most of Europe outside of the valley we now lived. They had battled and destroyed every oponent they had ever fought, and only fell to their own failings. It seemed strange they could fall so easily in the night. "They were not. Unfortunately they were knew to the land. In this inexperience they discovered their enemies that lie deep in the world that are extremely dangerous. The Spiders of the western depths of the mountains had been stirred by the Dark Lord Sauron and had done his bidding." "What happened after their city fell." "They sent two large armies to the valley attempting to destroy the Spiders but each time they came they heard nothing from their army and after losing two armies they built a great tower where your Castamere ruins now stand and they forgot this place." "The largest Empire in the history of the world just forgot about it." "Even the powerful, and the wise are afraid sometimes."
